How to ace the 10-step K-Beauty routine to perfection?

Time to get glass looking skin with the 10-step k-beauty routine

You must’ve seen the most amazing, youthful looking skin on koreans! Yes, we can say they’re the queen of glass skins. That’s where glass skin actually came from! If you’re wondering what it means, this refers to when you're at the juiciest, healthiest and plumped up state and looks luminous and translucent. Achieving all of this ain’t easy but koreans have done it way easily and thankfully, they’ve passed the technique to us as well and now we can easily incorporate it into our routine, or let’s just say, use it to the fullest and achieve that glowing and glass looking skin.

The secret here is you just need to have the right products that work and blend well into your skin and layer them the correct way. Over here the price doesn’t matter, it just has to be correct. The correct routine goes by -

Step 1 - Oil based cleanser

The first step has to be a cleanser and that too, oil based. An oil based cleanser is much gentle in nature when compared to others and is good in sucking up oil based makeup or any debris present on your skin. Gently rubbing it on for 2-3 minutes in circular motions ensures proper blood flow and induces the cells to carry out their functions smoothly. The Cosrx Low pH Good Morning Gel Cleanser comes handy here. It's a mildly acidic cleanser that makes skin supple and keeps skin hydrated all along.

Step 2 - Foam based cleanser

Double cleansing is what they go for and thus, after washing their face with an oil based cleanser they opt for a foam based one that removes accumulated dirt, sweat and chemicals left. Since foam based cleansers are usually high in pH and sulphate level, that is not good for skin it’s always better to opt for a gentle, low pH value cleanser. We’ve always liked the Sioris Day By Day Cleansing Gel that gently controls excess oil, removes dirt & impurities and doesn’t strip off.

Step 3 - Exfoliate

This might seem a bit off but it’s definitely worth it! The best part about exfoliation is it gives you baby soft skin instantly! Exfoliation just scrubs off the dead skin cells off your skin and makes sure your skin then appears brighter and firmer. Gently rolling the product in circular motions for 2-3 minutes and then washing does the work.

Step 4 - Toner

When it comes to k-beauty, the toners here are generally more mild, gentle and even provide hydration unlike the regular alcohol based toners. They’re actually used for removing any dirt left behind and balancing the skin’s pH level. One of them being SNP Prep Peptaronic Toner that hydrates skin and helps maintain oil and moisture balance.

Step 5 - Essence

A rare step that you’ll find maybe only in the k-beauty skincare routine! A unique product that packs your skin with extreme hydration and speeds up cell turnover. It even prepares your skin for the rest of the steps ahead. When it comes to this product, the Cosrx Advanced Snail 96 Mucin Power Essence is the right pick. It has 92% snail mucin filtrate that nourishes, revitalises and replenishes skin.

Step 6 - Serums/Ampoules

Serums are packed with active ingredients that clears out bigger concerns such as dark spots, wrinkles, dryness, uneven skin tone and what not! They’re usually concentrated and heavier than an essence whereas ampoules are heavier than serums. However, both of these pack your face with intense moisturisation. We swear by Dear, Klairs Freshly Juiced Vitamin C Drop Serum that energises and rejuvenates skin because of pure Vitamin C extracts present.

Step 7 - Sheet - Mask

In comes the me-time! Just put on a sheet mask and relax. Watch or do anything you like. Sheet masks are soaked in serum and blended with essential vitamins and minerals that floods skin with hydration, rejuvenates it and gives it the glow it deserves.

Step 8 - Eye-Cream

The area under your eyes is the first one to show signs of ageing and no, we don’t ever want that. We always want it to look youthful. Patting on eye creams gently ensures your skin is plumped and free of dark spots, crow’s feet or wrinkles and just soothes up. One of the most liked being Dear, Klairs Fundamental Eye Awakening Gel that improves dark circle and skin tone and gently adds moisture to the thinnest skin.

Step 9 - Moisturiser

Our most favourite step is finally here. This step is vital since it even locks in previous layers and makes your skin look glowing. Gently rubbing or massaging it onto your skin until it’s nicely absorbed is the trick here. Using the product that works best for your skin is needed. The product that stands up to its claims is the Cosrx Oil-Free Ultra Moisturising Lotion(with Birch Sap) that is lightweight, non greasy but gives a slap of hydration.

Step 10 - SPF

The last step here is SPF but it’s one of the most important one! Applying a layer of sunscreen protects your skin from UV rays that ends up damaging your skin. So yes, it’s kinda necessary for you to apply sunscreen at the end and protect your skin at all costs. Our favourite being Lisen Soothing Shade SPF 50 + PA +++ Sunscreen that offers broad spectrum protection while repairs and restores skin barrier.
